Benchmark Takes Control Of The Sky
The striking aesthetics of Benchmarks metallic façades and premium insulated panel products made them the ideal choice for the construction of the new landmark £6m Air Traffic Control centre at Jersey Airport which acts as the main gateway to the Channel Islands.
Local builders AC Mauger installed 850m2 of Optimo in
Spectrum Silver on the two storey main operations building which is
linked at both levels to the 39 metre control tower, where
1200m2 of Benchmark Metallic Façade ACM (Aluminium
Composite Material) hook-on-cassettes in a metallic silver finish
was installed to compliment the main building.
Jersey Airport's new Air Traffic Control Centre is expected to
become fully operational towards the end of 2010 and has been named
as 'Project of the Year' by the Jersey Construction Council at
their recent awards ceremony.
Graeme Hutchison, Assistant Director of Jersey Property Holdings
Architects Section commented "The Optimo system was selected to
provide both the necessary thermal performance and the desired
visual effect of a semi-matt finish to give a machine like
quality. From a practical point of view rapid run off was
essential to avoid unsightly staining due to the powerful effect of
aviation fuel."
He added "The ACM metallic finish rainscreen from Benchmark was
initially specified as it could be pre-formed to the radii of the
Air Traffic Control Tower on the "stem" and the splayed section at
the top of the tower forming the external walkway. The colour
selected complimented the colour of the Optimo wall and façade
system."
Suitable for vertical or horizontal applications, the ultra-flat
Optimo insulated panels can be used to create a stylishly sleek
look to the building profile and are available with a number of
different vertical joint options and cover widths from 600 up to
1000mm in 1mm increments. They offer lifetime continuity,
thermal performance and airtightness of less than
5m3/hr/m2 at 50 Pa.
